I hadn't realised it before, but Jonny Trunk is basically my hero. He doesn't have a job as such in the traditional, vocational 9-to-5 kind of way, but rather produces projects of his own on an ad hoc basis. Almost always these projects follow the form of finding something obscure and old (could be an old jazz record, or a really nicely produced record bag, or even a piece of advertising or design ephemera) and then reproducing it beautifully so he can share it with a new audience. And so it has come to pass that Jonny has re-mastered and re-released forgotten film scores through his Trunk Records label, published a book that celebrates Sainsbury's own-label design in the 1970s (now a collector's item in its own right), and, very recently, produced an art print based on a point-of-sale cardboard cutout of Muhammed Ali eating a burger. Jonny Trunk, Sonic Sandwich salutes you!
